The hotel key card are designed to grant guests entry to their rooms. A certain hotels utilize access cards that have magnetic strips. Most  commonly referred to as ‘mag stripe cards’. These mag stripe cards are also known as ‘swipe cards’. However, there exist alternative options for hotel access, including proximity (RFID) cards, access cards with holes, photo ID cards, barcode cards, and smart cards.

The hotel key cards use different technologies to communicate with electronic locks on guest room doors.

  • Magnetic Stripe: This is the most common type, with a black magnetic stripe on the back of the card that stores the encoded information for your room and access duration. The reader swipes the card, reads the magnetic data, and grants access if valid.
  • Near Field Communication (NFC): The newer hotels might use NFC technology. These cards contain a small chip that communicates wirelessly with the reader when held close to it.
  • Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID): Less common but gaining traction, RFID cards have an embedded chip that transmits a unique signal to the reader at a short distance, allowing for contactless access.

The various types of hotel key card can be utilized to gain entry into rooms It operates elevators, and access specific areas within the building. All of these access methods are integral components of a conventional access control system.
