what is rfid card

RFID cards are a form of contactless smart card that utilize radio frequency identification (RFID) technology to store and transmit data. These cards are often known as contactless cards or smart cards.

How RFID cards work:
  1. RFID cards have a small chip and antenna embedded in them.
  2. The chip contains a unique identifier that can be read by an RFID reader.
  3. The RFID reader emits radio waves that activate the chip and collect data from it.
  4. The card and reader establish a wireless connection.
Where RFID cards are used:
  • Security access cards: RFID cards can be used to access secure areas.
  • Car keys: RFID cards can be used to unlock cars.
  • Employee identification: These cards can be used to identify employees.
  • Medical history: These cards can be used to store medical history and billing information.
  • Highway toll tags: These cards can be used to pay tolls on highways.
  • EV charging: RFID cards can be used to pay for and use electric vehicle charging stations.
  • Credit cards: RFID cards can be used to make contactless payments.
Types:

  1. Low Frequency (LF) card
These cards operate at a frequency of 125 kHz and are commonly used for membership cards.
  2. High Frequency (HF) card
These cards operate at a frequency of 13.56 MHz and are considered the most secure.
  3. Ultra-High Frequency (UHF) card
RFID card operates at frequencies between 860-960 MHz and have the longest read range.
